Domaine des Valanges 2015 "Les Cras", Saint-Véran

The Pacquet family created the Domaine des Valanges in the 1980s and over the years have been able to expand their vineyard holdings over several other appellations. Their children, Matthieu and Camille have now formed a separate domain with Camille as the winemaker and managed to take over this vineyard in a “fermage“ agreement in 2015. What a year to begin and what a lovely wine! This is a sunny, happy wine reflecting the fine summer weather of this vintage. The nose is expressive and aromatic with notes of acacia flowers, blossom and sweet fruit. On the palate, the wine is generous, round and fruity with notes of spice, a touch of anise and then lovely, honeyed concentration. This is a very pretty Chardonnay with a lot of personality where freshness and richness meet and blend superbly together. There is a bright future ahead for this domain.

Domaine la Soufrandise 2015 Terra Mea, Pouilly-Fuissé

This pretty wine is full of character and displays the best attributes of the Chardonnay variety with expressive aromas of acacia, white flowers and peaches. The palate is vibrant, generous and beautifully fresh with a well-rounded, soft texture in the mouth. An ideal match for white meats, crustacea and shellfish.

Château Valcombe 2016 Epicure Blanc, Ventoux

The 2016 is a big success for this young estate. An attractive blend of 40% Grenache Blanc, 20% Roussane, 20% Clairette and 20% Bourboulenc from old vines farmed organically produce an expressive wine with notes of white flowers and orchard fruits in the nose. On the palate, the wine has an attractive roundness, aromas of fruit, oak and wild flowers with good acidity which leads to a long and complex finish. A very appetising wine to enjoy with light meals – vegetarian dishes, fish and salads.

Château La Nerthe 2014, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

A blend of Grenache Blanc 35 % , Roussanne 33 %, Bourboulenc 18 % and Clairette 14 % is used in this blend. The Roussanne grapes are fermented in French oak barrels (1/3 new) and then aged on their fine lees. The other grape varieties are first vinified in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures and then aged on their fine lees. The result is a pale yellow wine with green reflections; the aromas are expressive with nuances of white peaches, brioche and citrus fruit. There is a beautiful freshness on the attack leading to a wine that is quite rich and round with the same flavours of white fruits with a hint of baked apples. The finish is long with a roasted note accompanied by floral tones, then pineapple – all of which are wrapped in a lovely sweetness? A very great white wine to serve with grilled fish, poultry, vegetarian dishes or cheeses.

Domaine David 2010 Clos du Ferré, Goulaine, Muscadet-Sèvre-et-Maine

A firm favourite with sommeliers, this wine shows just how good top quality Muscadet can be. Made from 100% Melon de
Bourgogne grapes, grown from 55-year-old vines on a parcel called 'Goulaine'. It is fermented with indigenous yeasts and left to settle on its fine lees for between 18-24 months. This method of extended ageing on lees gives the wine an added richness and unctuosity, whilst also retaining a lovely salty vitality, which is characteristic of all good coastal wines. Aromas of grapefruit and blackcurrant buds on the nose lead into flavours of toasted almonds and salty minerality on the palate. A delicious wine with a touch of umami, a perfect match for oysters, shellfish and white fish.

Weingut Dreissigacker 2016 Organic Riesling Trocken, Rheinhessen

Jochen Dreissigacker is one of the great young winemakers in Germany at the moment. Based in the Rheinhessen, he farms organically in the region of Bechtheim. This Riesling is hand harvested and fermented at cool temperatures to preserve the natural purity and fruitiness. It is elegant, very well balanced with aromas of yellow fruits (fresh plums, apricot and peach) and a long, fresh finish. Serve with salads, fish and vegetable dishes.
