Catalan Eagle, Catalunya, Terra Alta 2015

An attractive blend of 40% Grenache Blanc, 20% Roussane, 20% Clairette and 20% Bourboulenc from old vines farmed organically produce an expressive wine with notes of white flowers and orchard fruits. A very appetising wine to enjoy with light meals, –vegetarian dishes, fish and salads.

Domaine des Valanges, Saint-Véran 2014

Catalan Eagle takes its name from the bird that soars above the nature reserve close to the 26-hectare organic vineyard in Terra Alta which is near Tarragona in southern Catalonia. This wine has an expressive nose of peaches, pears and grapefruit. On the palate, there is minerality, fruit and some warm, spicy notes. Round and full on the palate this is an aromatic wine with good acidity and a rich texture. Enjoy with seafood and paella.

Château Couhins, Pessac-Léognan 2013

This wine is proof of just how successful the whites were in 2013. It is powerfully aromatic and full of character. Made from late-harvested grapes, with vibrant Sauvignon aromas, a fruity palate and fine taught finish. Drink 2015-2018.

Château La Prade, Francs, Côtes de Bordeaux 2011

An appealing deep violet colour, very fragrant and spicy on the nose, opulent and round with sumptuous autumn fruit flavours on the palate-a mix of blackberries and boysenberries with a touch of wild herbs; nice spicy finish.

Pessac-Léognan, Thienpont Selection 2010

This 2010 Pessac Leognan has a deep garnet colour with a complex nose showing aromas of cassis, blackcurrants and bramble fruit. The palate is round and generous and full-bodied; supple tannins, with moderate structure from oak and a pretty persistence of dark fruit flavours. Long and well-balanced, this wine is full of character and is ready to drink now and will age for a further five years. An easy-drinking wine, perfect for family and business dinners.

Château De Carles, Fronsac 2012

This historic estate which dates back to the 15th century is one of the jewels of Fronsac. The wine is a blend of 90 % Merlot with 5% de Malbec and 5% de Cabernet Franc grapes. The 2012 vintage is a good success with an expressive mix of black pepper, tobacco, autumn fruits and cedar in the nose. The palate is balanced between a good level of tannins and expressive and fresh fruit flavours.

The boy king Tutankhamen, who died in 1352 BC, enjoyed a glass of red wine with several bottles found buried in his tomb by archeologists when it was opened in 1922. The wine jars were labeled with the wine's name, year of harvest, source and even vine grower. So detailed were the labels that some of them could even have met modern wine label laws. The wine had unsurprisingly dried out, however a team of Spanish scientists were able to determine the jars had contained red wine by pinpointing remnants of a specific acid left in red wine.
